The BRIEF Method.Five letters that turnlazy prompts brilliant.

PROMPT.TXTBUILDING…
Write a post about our new service. Background: we're a 4-person bookkeeping firm in Leeds launching monthly payroll. Most clients are tradespeople who dread HMRC deadlines. You're an expert B2B copywriter for small firms. Write a LinkedIn post announcing the service to owners of businesses with 1–10 staff. Match the voice of this post of mine that did well: "[PASTE]". Hook in line one, under 150 words, short lines, no buzzwords, end with a question. Give me 3 hooks to choose from first, then I'll pick one.
QUALITY

1B · BACKGROUND

Give it the background

The facts only you know: who you are, what's going on, who it's for. This is where average answers become useful ones.

2R · ROLE

Give it a role

Tell it who to be: an expert copywriter, a patient tutor, a sharp accountant. It changes the knowledge and tone it brings.

3I · INSTRUCTION

Say exactly what you want

Not "a post", but "a LinkedIn post announcing a new service to small business owners". Specific asks get specific answers.

4E · EXAMPLES

Show it what good looks like

Paste something you liked. One example beats a hundred adjectives, and it's how you make AI sound like you.

5F · FORMAT

Shape the output

Length, structure, tone, layout. Decide what "done" looks like before it starts.

6+ ITERATE

Then make it ask and improve

Ask for options, let it question you, refine. This is what pros do differently.

Classic prompt problem. Give it the buyer you're targeting, two features only this home has, and one listing you loved as a style sample. Paste this in:
You're writing for [BUYER]. Using the style of the example below, describe [PROPERTY] in 120 words…
That's miles better. Can we save it as a template?

06 / QUESTIONS
What is GoodAtAI?
GoodAtAI is a premium online course that teaches you how to prompt AI properly, so you get genuinely useful results instead of generic waffle. The main course, The GoodAtAI Prompting Course, is built around our BRIEF Method and uses Claude as the tool for every example. You also get a bonus track, Claude Essentials, covering set-up, files and data, power features and everyday business uses.
Who is the course for?
UK adults who want to get properly good at using AI: small business owners, tradespeople, office workers, professionals, and complete beginners. If you've tried AI and found the answers bland, or you've never really known what to type, this course is for you.
Do I need any technical skills?
No. If you can write an email, you can do this course. Everything is explained in plain English, and every technique comes with copy-and-paste examples. No coding is required.
What exactly is the BRIEF Method?
BRIEF is GoodAtAI's five-part framework for writing prompts: Background (the situation), Role (who the AI should be), Instruction (the exact job), Examples (what good looks like) and Format (length, layout and tone). Module 2 teaches each element in turn, and you'll use it throughout the course.
Why focus on prompting rather than features?
Because prompting is where most people struggle, and it's the skill that makes everything else work. Features change every few months; the ability to brief an AI clearly lasts. The Claude Essentials bonus track covers the features too, but the main course makes you good at the part that matters most.
Will the techniques work with other AI assistants?
Yes. We teach with Claude, but BRIEF is about clear communication, so the techniques transfer to any modern AI assistant you use now or in future.
Is GoodAtAI official or affiliated with Anthropic?
No. GoodAtAI is an independent course. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Anthropic, the company that makes Claude. That independence lets us be straight with you about what works and where you still need a human check.
How much does it cost?
The course is a one-off payment of £47. That includes lifetime access to the full Prompting Course, the Claude Essentials bonus track, all videos, the Prompt Lab and your personalised prompt pack, plus 30 days of the AI tutor free.
How long do I have access?
Lifetime access to the course lessons, videos and your prompt pack, including future updates to the course content.
